Our reading program
Our reading and writing curriculum emphasizes the following areas of study starting with kindergarten and continuing through high school.
- Pencil control
- Identifying letters of the alphabet
- Correct printing of alphabet letters
- Working with letters and sounds
- Correct pronunciation of words
- Spelling and vocabulary
- Individual and group reading
- Vowels and syllables used in word recognition
- Phonemic awareness
- Correct writing of alphabet letters
- Basic sentence writing
Advanced subjects
As the student progresses, these are some of the more advanced topics included in our writing curriculum.
- Sentence structure, including predicate, adjective, adverb, etc.
- Learning to use commas, colons, semicolons, question marks and exclamation points in sentence writing
- Rules of capitalization
- Learning to use the dictionary and thesaurus
- Sentence and paragraph comprehension
- Advanced sentence writing, including sentence flow
- Communication and report writing
