Our reading program

Our reading and writing curriculum emphasizes the following areas of study starting with kindergarten and continuing through high school.

  •       Pencil control
  •       Identifying letters of the alphabet
  •       Correct printing of alphabet letters
  •       Working with letters and sounds
  •       Correct pronunciation of words
  •       Spelling and vocabulary
  •       Individual and group reading
  •       Vowels and syllables used in word recognition
  •       Phonemic awareness
  •       Correct writing of alphabet letters
  •       Basic sentence writing

Advanced subjects

As the student progresses, these are some of the more advanced topics included in our writing curriculum.

  •       Sentence structure, including predicate, adjective, adverb, etc.
  •       Learning to use commas, colons, semicolons, question marks and exclamation points in sentence writing
  •       Rules of capitalization
  •       Learning to use the dictionary and thesaurus
  •       Sentence and paragraph comprehension
  •       Advanced sentence writing, including sentence flow
  •       Communication and report writing
